The Instructor
It actually began when I was 6…acting out my favorite commercials in my bathroom mirror…
True, much of Jenny’s childhood was spent performing in front of a mirror. But we’ll fast forward to her young adult years.
Jenny Steadman (maiden name Schmidt) graduated from Texas Christian University in 2000 with a BFA in Theater Television. With her winning combination of naivete, optimism, and a humble mid-western work ethic, she moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in television. Stars aligned and this Irish Catholic from St. Louis landed her first LA gig… as a Rabbi’s assistant. As her path took no specific turn she soon got a day job assisting then up & comer casting director, Alyson Horn. She also got her first commercial agent and began auditioning non-stop while working tirelessly as a casting associate. Her foray in commercial casting continued several more years working full time for veteran casting director, Gabrielle Schary, and managing Sessions West Studios.
After 13 years working in casting and as an actress in dozens and dozens of commercials, she took her insightful experience and joined Killian McHugh at Killian’s Workshop. For 7 years she enjoyed teaching a foundations class for people new to auditioning in Los Angeles. She quickly discovered a passion for encouraging others and offering blunt, constructive criticism in the nicest, most humorous way.
All the while, Jenny has been sitting in traffic, waiting in lobbies, failing miserably, scoring big, making people laugh, getting frustrated, jumping up and down, shooting commercials and appearing on TV shows such as Superstore, Jane the Virgin, The Fosters, Just Add Magic, Pen15, The Mindy Project, Liza On Demand, Fear the Walking Dead and VEEP.
Jenny Steadman currently lives in Santa Monica where she loves gardening, her outdoor exercise group, watching sports with her husband, and adoring her nieces & nephews.
